The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, has said that President Akufo-Addo has taken control of, and demonstrated sound management, of the country’s energy sector, leading to a sustainable and efficiently managed sector.
Speaking at the commissioning of Phase One of the newly retrofitted Kpong Generation Station and the launch of 5,000 improved cookstoves distribution project at Akuse, in the Lower Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region, Mr Darfour stated that the government’s ability to stabilise and sustain power supply in the country will serve as an anchor for its industrialisation programme and enhance the Ghana beyond Aid agenda.
He indicated that the effective management of the energy sector by the Akufo-Addo government is what has led to stable power supply in the country.
Strict supervision
The Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu, stated that the President, since he assumed office in 2017, has made supervision of the sector and ensuring constant power supply his personal priority.
The Minister added that the government is also taking advantage of the current trend of technology to modernise the country’s energy sector.
Additionally, he mentioned that the government is not only expanding the capacity of the energy sector, but also ensuring the provision of reliable power in a sustainable manner for national development.
“I’m glad to announce that after going through dumsor, now Ghana is able to export power to the tonne of 260 megawatts outside the country. Our universal accessibility and readily available energy in the local market and beyond is unprecedented. A very big congratulations to the VRA and GRIDCO for making sure the export capacity of these two agencies were brought to light,” he stated.
