National Chairman of the governing NPP, Freddie Blay, has shamed his critics by openly campaigning for Kwasi Bonzoh, the party’s Parliamentary candidate for Ellembele constituency in Western Region.
Rumours in and outside NPP had it that that Mr Blay, a former three-term MP for the area, was against the candidature of Mr Bonzoh.
Some further alleged that the NPP chairman was busily pulling strings to ensure the defeat of the party’s candidate in the Monday polls.
The rumour mongers, had claimed that Homa Akasie Miezah, the party’s Western Regional treasurer who contested Mr Bonzoh was the chairman’s choice adding Mr Blay was therefore not happy when the election did not go his way.
Endorsement
However, at a function in the area over the weekend, Mr Blay demonstrated his support for the PC by encouraging him to leave no stone unturned in unseating the NDC’s Armah Kofi Buah.
“Take the seat from NDC and make sure you win convincingly too,” he said amidst smiles.
The NPP chairman also joined Mr Bonzoh, who is the DCE for the area, to campaign in some key areas to prove his endorsement of Mr Bonzoh’s candidature.
His action, report says, has silenced the critics, particularly those in the NDC who thought they could make political fortune out of the rumours.
Mr Bonzoh is contesting the Ellembele Parliamentary seat for the third time after narrowly missing it in 2016.
There are indications that results from the remote Ainyinase North may tilt towards the NPP since measures have been put in place to protect the ballot cast in those areas.
