The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the final list of elected Members of Parliament for the eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic following Monday’s general election.
The list puts the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) slightly ahead with 137 seats, as against the opposition National Democratic Congress’ 136, with Sene West, in the Bono East Region, outstanding.
The Member of Parliament for Fomena constituency, in the Ashanti Region, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, also maintained his seat as an independent candidate, the EC said in statement issued yesterday. Mr Amoako Asiamah is expected to join the NPP side in Parliament.

Correction
In a related development, the EC has also corrected a wrong figure it quoted during the declaration of the presidential election results on Wednesday evening.
A statement from the EC said the total valid votes in this year’s election was 13,119,460, and not the 13,433,573 the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa, quoted during the declaration.
“The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission inadvertently used 13,433,573 as the total valid votes cast. The total valid votes cast is 13,119,460.
“This does not change the percentages stated for each candidate and the declaration made by the Chairperson,” the statement added.
NPP parliamentary primaries
Meanwhile, Peter Mac Manu, the Campaign Manager for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the leadership of the party will review its parliamentary primaries system following the significant loss of some of its seats in the December 7 elections.
His comment comes after at least 33 incumbent NPP MPs lost their seats in the just-ended elections which include about 21 ministers of state or deputy ministers.
Speaking to the media, Mr Manu attributed the major parliamentary casualties to fallouts that occurred during the primaries earlier this year.
Lessons learnt
According to him, the party has learnt a lot of lessons from the just-ended elections and will work at ensuring that some mistakes that they committed do not happen again.
“The management of the parliamentary elections primaries is a worry that we have to look at. I think it is an area that we are of concern. So we will look at it,” he said.
The NPP Campaign Manager also added, “We set two objectives, and one is to win all-round which has been achieved and the second was to get a gap of over one million votes but that was not achieved.
“So we will go and sit down, do a post mortem and relook at things that we may not have done properly.”
Aside from the 33 MPs who lost their seats, a total of 41 incumbent MPs who lost the NPP primaries earlier this year and thus did not contest in Monday’s polls. Meanwhile, four NPP MPs are retiring.
