Opare Ansah: NPP needs good “midfielder” to break the 8

A former Member of Parliament for the Suhum constituency in Eastern Region, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has stated that the NPP needs nothing but a “good midfielder” to break Ghana’s eight years’ governance cycle.

He said this while speaking at an event organized in Takoradi by a volunteer group in the NPP, “Friends of Opare-Ansah”, who had impressed on the former MP to declare his intention of contesting for the position of the party’s General Secretary.

This group is mainly made up colleague former NPP Members of Parliament with an agenda of identifying visionary and dynamic party members who can bring change on the political landscape.

According to him, the NPP needs a unifier to bring all aggrieved party members on board for victory in 2024 because of the sharp division and intolerance in the Party which has the tendency of pushing it into opposition.

Mr Opare-Ansah said it takes visionary and dynamic leaders of his calibre to save NPP from going into opposition. “The answer to NPP’s problem is Ansah,” he said

Present at the event included Joe Mensah, of Kwesimintin; Abraham Dwomah Odoom, Twifo-Ati Amokwaa; and Ama Sey, Akwatia constituencies. Joe Baidoe-Ansah, a journalist and former Member of Parliament for Kwesimintim, and Ransford Yaw Agyepong, who was unseated by Opare-Addo years ago, were also present at the event held at Akroma Plaza.

In brief remarks, they described Opare-Ansah as an astute and experienced politician who stands tall amongst other party members vying for the General Secretary position.

Endorsement

It is in this vein that they called for his endorsement to bring quality leadership into the party. Ironically, none of the party’s executives in Western Region and the sitting MPs attended the programme in spite of invitations sent them.

Before declaring his intent, the former Suhum MP reiterated his readiness and commitment to bringing quality leadership into NPP if elected as the next General Secretary.

“Current and future challenges in the party demand new leadership style which is at my fingertips. I wonder why NPP should lose over thirty parliamentary seats to the opposition NDC in 2020,” he recalled.
