The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the general public against the consumption of a certain Indomie Instant Chicken Noodles with ‘Ladha Ya Kuku’ inscription on the label.
A statement signed by Yvonne Nkrumah, DCEO, Corporate Service Division of the FDA, said the product is not registered in Ghana.
The statement noted that the only registered indomie instant chicken noodles product is manufactured locally, and occasionally sourced from Nigeria.
Caution
“The attention of the FDA has been drawn to the recall of indomie instant noodles (chicken flavour) products from certain countries due to suspected presence of high levels of aflatoxins and pesticides. In light of the recent calls in other countries, the FDA has picked samples from the manufacturing facility in Ghana as well as different parts of sale across region nationwide for testing,” the statement said.
The Authority indicated that the healthy indomie instant chicken noodles manufactured locally and occasionally sourced from Nigeria are taken through a rigorous process including testing regimes for aflatoxins and pesticide residues before market authorization is given whilst a periodic post market test is also conducted.
The FDA further called on people who might have the unregistered indomie product in possession to contact the FDA immediately. The Authority assured the public that its surveillance teams are monitoring the market for any of these unregistered indomie products and will not renege on its mandate to protect public health.
