The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah, has officially declared his intention to run for the national chairmanship position of the party.
He made the declaration during a ceremony attended by the party’s regional and constituency executives in the Eastern Region at Koforidua.
Mr Abankwah-Yeboah explained that he had risen through the ranks of the party, as a founding member in 1992 through to polling station chairman, to parliamentary aspirant, and also served as National Treasurer for eight years.
He said the NPP had demonstrated to Ghanaians that it is the only party that implements pro-poor interventions that improve the lives of the people, citing the National Health Insurance Scheme and the Free Senior High School policy.
He, however, said despite this hallmark of the party, it will not be easy for the eight-year governance cycle to be broken for the NPP to retain power, adding that “the party needs a leader who will unite members and mobilize resources to retain power in the 2024 election”.
Vision
According to him, he will bring everybody onboard at all levels to work together as well as create equal opportunities for all.
“I would be the National Chairman that you can trust to be neutral, unifier, transparent and create opportunity for all,” he said.
Outlining his vision, he disclosed plans of instituting award scheme in the party to honour all hardworking party executives and members yearly.
He further indicated his resolve to empower the grassroots with viable economic skills and initiatives, and create economic opportunities for the youth. He also assured to create effective and efficient welfare scheme to cater for needy party members when given the nod.
Touching on internal disputes, Mr Abankwah-Yeboah said he would adopt alternate dispute resolution mechanisms to swiftly resolve wrangling in the party.
He also assured that the problem of apathy would be dealt with through enhanced transparency, trust and respect for one another.
Speaker after speaker, including Alhaji Bodinga, Eastern Regional First Vice Chairman of the NPP, gave positive testimonies about Mr Abankwa-Yeboah as the best man for the national chairman position of the part.
