The Brong Ahafo Regional Program Officer for non-governmental organisation (NGO), Action Aid Ghana, Yaw Osei Boateng, has called on government to consider supplying only organic fertilizers to farmers, especially those under the planting for food and jobs programme.
According to him, the use of organic fertilizer by farmers is the best way, as the farmers can produce the fertilisers themselves at a lower cost.
He further suggested that as part of the implementation of the planting for food and job programme, the government could initiate the process for farmers to use the organic fertilizer for the farming activities since organic foods are healthier than those produced from chemical fertilizer.

Mr Osei Boateng was speaking at a small-holder women farmers’ conference held in Sunyani under the theme “Building Climate Resilience for Smallholder Women Farmers through Agroecology,” when he made the call.
A Deputy CEO for Center for Indigenous Knowledge and Organizational Development, William Lartey, added that it is in the larger interest of everyone to support small holder women farmers in the country, so that they can produce more healthy foods using organic fertilizer.
Some of the women farmers who spoke to the media commended Action Aid for their initiatives to support farmers in the country and pledged to only use organic fertilizer on their plants going forward.
