African Medical Relief Foundation, Africa (AMRF – Africa), a non-governmental organisation, has launched an award scheme for 2023 to reward healthcare providers in Ghana.
The AMRF – Africa president, Michael Gyekye, at the media launch of the awards in Accra, said the healthcare Excellence Awards 2023 Ghana seeks to recognise, empower, and celebrate the healthcare workforce of Ghana.
“We were inspired by the growing centrality of healthcare towards Ghana’s ambition for sustainable development and the welfare of the Ghanaian citizenry, as well as the challenges to healthcare that were laid bare by the global COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
He indicated that the goal of the organisation is to reward excellence in professionalism and inspire organisational impact in the broader Ghanaian society.
“We envisage a continued promotion of healthcare excellence, while enjoining all stakeholders into mutually supportive dialogue and meaningful engagements about how to maintain satisfaction among all tiers of the workforce in the health sector,” he noted.
He said since its inception, AMRF- Africa had provided free medical screenings to over 8,000 people in impoverished areas in Ghana in line with its mission and vision.
He added that the organisation also provided tons of relief items most especially during the COVID19 pandemic and conducted free surgeries, donated medical equipment and supplies to some health centers and major hospitals.
2023 awards
Mr Gyekye said the organisation will, on annual basis, open nominations, and offer varying rewards to the diverse array of healthcare professionals, businesses within this varied sector, including private and public medical centres and clinics, herbal medicine and clinics, dental clinics, aesthetics, among others.
The Awards, he explained, is categorised into professional and organizational achievements. The professional awards seek to recognise and empower healthcare professionals for enhancing professional excellence and patient safety.
He underscored the need to recognise the immense contribution of the Ghanaian health worker as well as the industry supporting them even with the limited resources at hand.
“Under the organisational category, we want to recognise and empower healthcare organisations to do more supporting the healthcare delivery with excellence,” he said.
He admonished healthcare stakeholders to support the initiative, and recounted how, during the pandemic, some healthcare providers lost their lives on the line duties for others.
