The NPP UK has expressed its unequivocal condemnation of the alarming acts of violence witnessed at a recent assembly of NDC members and supporters.
A press statement released by the NPP UK Communication Directorate, said reports reveal that, under the influence of provocative rhetoric, NDC attendees brandished machetes, creating a threatening atmosphere that directly contradicts the principles of peaceful assembly and democratic discourse.
This unsettling incident unfolded not at a public rally but at the residence of the former president and current NDC flagbearer, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. It is deeply concerning that, as of now, Mahama has not publicly condemned this act of violence. This silence raises serious questions, given his prior statements on the NDC’s ‘revolutionary roots’ and claims regarding their prowess in violence.
The NPP UK urgently called upon civil society organizations, including faith groups, to break their silence and unequivocally denounce these acts of violence. This critical moment demands a united front from civil society to oppose any form of violence in political processes, safeguarding Ghana’s hard-earned democratic integrity.
The NPP, known for advocating peaceful and constructive political debate, emphasised that the violent behavior exhibited at the NDC assembly poses a significant threat to public safety and tarnishes the democratic fabric of the nation.
The NPP UK demanded swift action from the leadership of the NDC, especially John Dramani Mahama, urging them to denounce these actions and commit to conducting political activities in a manner that upholds the rule of law, human dignity, and the safety of all Ghanaians.
Furthermore, the NPP UK called on all political parties and their supporters to denounce violence and commit to fostering a peaceful and constructive political dialogue.
