The Nasara Coordinator for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Madina constituency, Rashid Sulieman, has emerged as a key figure in local politics, working tirelessly to empower the community a series of impactful initiatives.
His commitment to enhancing the lives of residents is evident in his organisation of various events and execution of projects aimed at fostering unity, health and economic opportunities.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Statesman, Sulieman emphasised the importance of community engagement and collaboration. “Our goal is to uplift every member of our community, regardless of their background,” he stated. “Through initiatives like the Madina Empowerment Project, we are equipping our youth with the skills they need to succeed,” he added.
Projects
On December 1, 2023, Sulieman launched the Madina Empowerment Project (MEP), a programme designed to uplift community members through skills training and job placement services. The initiative aims to address local unemployment issues, and empower individuals with the necessary tools to become economically empowered.
In addition to MEP, Sulieman organised a health walk on December 9, 2023, promoting physical fitness and wellness among residents. “A healthy community is a strong community. Furthermore, I have assisted in the registration of about 250 constituents to be enrolled on the NHIS,” he remarked.
Sulieman stressed that his commitment to community development extended beyond health initiatives. He has spearheaded several clean-up exercises, focusing on environmental sustainability, and has overseen the construction of gutters and bridges to improve infrastructure in the area.
His efforts in these projects have been met with enthusiasm from community members, who have recognized the importance of clean and safe living conditions.
Additionally, he successfully helped in installing over 500 streetlights in key areas across his area. The project, aimed at improving public safety and enhancing night-time visibility, has been warmly welcomed by residents.
Cultural activities also play a significant role in Sulieman’s initiatives. Recently, he hosted inter-tribal games and a cooking competition, fostering camaraderie among the diverse populations within Madina.
“These events are about more than just competition; they celebrate our rich diversity and bring us together as one community,” he noted.
In a bid to enhance the party’s base within the Zongo communities, Sulieman inaugurated a dedicated office for the NPP in Madina Zongo on June 15, 2019. This office serves as a hub for community engagement, offering a space for residents to voice their concerns, address grievances swiftly and seek assistance when need be.
Philanthropy
Sulieman’s contributions extend to philanthropy, as he has actively provided alms (zakat) to both Muslims and non-Muslims in the community, reflecting his commitment to social responsibility. His charitable efforts have significantly impacted many families, especially during challenging times.
Moreover, he has played a crucial role in assisting youth from the Madina constituency in securing opportunities to travel abroad, facilitating migration to countries such as the USA, Canada, Brazil, France, the UK, and Colombia. “Investing in our youth is investing in the future of our community,” Sulieman emphasised.
Sulieman further acknowledged his team, recognizing individuals such as Deputy Nasara Coordinator, Hajia Mama, Shila Alhassan, the Deputy Youth Organiser, Madina Organiser Antwi Bosiako, two former NPP constituency chairmen, and Nana Ogyam-Sasraku, CEO of Amdor Farms, among others.
