President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated GHS 50,000 to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) to support the church’s bicentennial anniversary celebrations. The gesture underscores the President’s longstanding admiration for the contributions of the Presbyterian Church to Ghana’s spiritual and socio-economic development over the past 200 years.
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement during the launch of the church’s anniversary at Osu Castle on Sunday, December 22, 2024, under the theme “PCG @200: Celebrating God’s Faithfulness and Impacting Generations Through the Gospel”.
Speaking to congregants and dignitaries, the President highlighted the significant role the PCG had played in shaping the moral, educational, and social fabric of the country.

“For two centuries, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has been a pillar of faith, education, and social development. The church has not only nurtured the spiritual well-being of Ghanaians but has also provided critical infrastructure and services in education and healthcare,” the President stated.
He also emphasised the shared responsibility between the church and the government in advancing Ghana’s progress. “Your work complements the efforts of the state in improving the lives of Ghanaians, and it is only fitting that we celebrate this milestone together,” he added.
The support
The GHS 50,000 donation, the President noted, was a token of appreciation to support the church’s commemorative activities. He expressed hope that the funds would aid in organizing impactful events that would both honor the church’s legacy and inspire greater commitment to its mission.
Collective responsibility
President Akufo-Addo also used the occasion to call on religious organizations to continue playing their part in Ghana’s development. He urged the church to strengthen its focus on promoting moral values, fostering peace, and addressing societal challenges such as youth unemployment and poverty.
“As we celebrate this significant milestone, let us reaffirm our shared commitment to building a Ghana that is not only prosperous but also anchored in the values of faith, integrity, and service to others,” the President said.
Appreciation
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, expressed gratitude to the President for his generous contribution. He described the support as a testament to the strong partnership between the church and the government in fostering national unity and development.
