A national youth organiser hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Atick Yakubu, has described the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, as an incompetent police chief who has specialised in going after members of the opposition New Patriotic Party while the country’s peace continues to deteriorate under his watch.
He noted that under IGP Yohunu, Ghana has moved from 55 to 61 on the Global Peace Index, providing evidence of the IGP’s incompetence.
However, according to the NPP youth organiser hopeful, the IGP is not concerned about the deteriorating state of the country’s security but has rather developed a habit of going after Ghanaians who speak up against his poor leadership.
“So under this IGP, Ghanaians can’t speak against his poor leadership mixed with insecurity all over the country? Someone we pay can’t be criticised? Under Yohunu as IGP, Ghana has moved from 55 to 61 on the Global Peace Index. So there’s evidence to back his incompetence,” he posted.
In a Facebook post commenting on the arrest of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, Atick Yakubu therefore called on supporters of the party to rise up against the arbitrary arrest of their members, saying the IGP has proven not to need any reason to go after Ghanaians he disagrees with.
He cited the recent arrest of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias “Chairman Wontumi”, social media activist Sir Obama Pokuase, TikToker Fante Comedy and a host of NPP social media activists as calculated attempts by the IGP to use intimidation to cow supporters of the party into silence, necessitating concerted efforts from members of the party to rise against such police tyranny.
