The Sports Directorate of the Ghana Police Service made a remarkable display at the recently held WASA exhibition, showcasing its achievements in national and community sports.
The event was attended by the President of Ghana, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Police Management Board, and other dignitaries. The exhibition also featured performances by renowned Ghanaian musicians, including Kojo Antwi, Piesie Esther, Obaapa Christy, the Tagoe Sisters, and Akosua Agyapong.
During the exhibition, the Director of Sports, ASP Bernice Timbilla, led the President and the delegation through an impressive presentation of the Directorate’s accomplishments. The showcase highlighted the successes of Police sports teams at local and international competitions.
Display collections
A collection of medals, trophies, and awards was displayed, including recent honours from the Eva Atta Mills Memorial Tournament. These achievements demonstrated the Directorate’s growing prominence in hockey and other community sporting activities.
ASP Timbilla explained to the President the vital role sports play within the Police Service. She emphasised that sports promote discipline, teamwork, physical wellness, and national representation. Police athletes, she noted, continue to excel at national and continental levels, reflecting the Directorate’s commitment to nurturing talent and building the Service’s reputation.
The President expressed his delight at the presentation. He commended the Directorate for its professionalism, achievements, and the high quality of talent developed within the Police Service. He said the recognition of the Directorate’s work would strengthen institutional pride and enhance the public image of the Service.
The WASA exhibition also provided a platform to showcase the Directorate’s vision for transformation and growth. It highlighted the Service’s efforts in capacity building, improving performance across sporting disciplines, and engaging communities through sport.
