The Nurture Nature Foundation (NNF), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra Premiere International, is set to organise a free eye screening exercise for women and young adults in the Ga Mashie community as part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare and improve access to essential eye services.
The outreach programme, scheduled for Sunday, March 29, 2026, will take place at the forecourt of the Gamashie Development Agency from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is expected to attract scores of residents who often face challenges accessing routine eye care due to financial and logistical constraints.
Participants will benefit from a range of services including visual acuity tests, glaucoma screening, near vision assessment, and general eye health examinations. Health professionals will also provide basic counselling on eye care and refer cases requiring further medical attention to appropriate facilities.
Speaking ahead of the exercise, the Executive Director of the Nurture Nature Foundation, Peter Asiedu, said the initiative forms part of the organisation’s broader commitment to supporting vulnerable communities with accessible healthcare interventions. He noted that eye health remains a critical but often neglected aspect of public health, particularly among underserved populations.
Mr. Asiedu explained that early detection of eye conditions such as glaucoma and refractive errors is crucial in preventing avoidable blindness and long-term visual impairment. He added that the collaboration with the Rotary Club underscores the importance of partnerships in addressing community health challenges.
He encouraged residents of Ga Mashie and surrounding areas to take advantage of the free screening, stressing that regular eye checks are essential for maintaining good vision and overall well-being.
He further expressed optimism that the exercise will not only provide immediate relief to beneficiaries but also raise awareness about the importance of proactive eye care practices within the community.
