The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Ghana, H.E. Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annang Amui Adzor III, to explore avenues for collaboration in youth development, entrepreneurship, education, job creation and knowledge exchange.
The visit, which took place at the Ashaiman Divisional Council on Thursday, October 22, 2026, forms part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships and connect the municipality’s vibrant youth population to global opportunities.
Engagement
Speaking during the engagement, Nii Annang Amui Adzor III called for a lasting and mutually beneficial relationship between Ashaiman and Spain, emphasising the need to translate diplomatic relations into practical initiatives that improve livelihoods and accelerate local development.
He noted that Ashaiman, despite its developmental challenges, possessed enormous economic potential, driven by its entrepreneurial spirit, strategic location near Tema’s industrial and commercial hub, and a youthful population eager to contribute to Ghana’s development.
Observation
The Chief observed that many young people in the municipality had the talent, qualifications and determination to succeed but continued to face barriers, including limited access to capital, relevant skills training, professional networks and employment opportunities.
He therefore urged the Spanish Embassy to collaborate with the traditional council, the municipal authorities, educational institutions and private-sector organisations to develop programmes that would address these challenges.
The Chief identified youth employment and skills development, entrepreneurship and investment, educational partnerships, scholarships, technical and vocational training, and cultural exchange as priority areas for cooperation.
Opprtunities
He also encouraged Spanish businesses and investors to explore opportunities in Ashaiman, particularly in sectors where investment, technology transfer and enterprise development could stimulate economic activity and create sustainable jobs.
According to him, the proposed partnership should enable young people to acquire industry-relevant skills, access mentorship, explore international learning opportunities and establish businesses capable of employing others.
He further stressed the importance of knowledge exchange between Ghanaian and Spanish institutions, noting that scholarships, student exchanges, teacher development and digital learning initiatives could equip young people with the competencies required to compete in an increasingly interconnected world.
The Chief also called for attention to the needs of elderly people and vulnerable groups, arguing that meaningful development must be inclusive and ensure that no segment of society was left behind.
Gratitude
For his part, His Excellency Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo expressed gratitude to the Chief and the people of Ashaiman for the warm reception and the opportunity to engage with the traditional leadership and community.
The Ambassador expressed interest in building a lasting relationship with the people of Ashaiman, with a focus on identifying areas of common interest that could support economic development and create opportunities for young people.
He welcomed the engagement as an opportunity to deepen people-to-people relations and explore practical avenues for cooperation in entrepreneurship, education, knowledge sharing, culture, employment and other areas of mutual benefit.
Proposal
The proposed areas of collaboration are expected to open further discussions involving the Spanish Embassy, the Ashaiman Divisional Council, the Municipal Assembly, educational institutions, businesses and development partners.
The courtesy call comes against the backdrop of the Ashaiman Youth Connect programme, organised by Massboss Entertainment in collaboration with the Ashaiman Divisional Council under the theme, “Connecting Youth to Global Opportunities.”
The programme sought to build bridges between Ashaiman’s youth and international institutions, businesses and networks that can help unlock their potential.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ashaiman, Hon. Freeman Tsekpo and the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Constituency, Hon. Ernest Norgbey expressed optimism that the engagement would go beyond diplomatic courtesies and lead to concrete initiatives, urging prospective partners to work with local stakeholders to identify needs, develop projects and measure outcomes.
They reiterated that Ashaiman was ready to welcome credible international partners interested in responsible investment, youth empowerment and inclusive growth.
