The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has commiserated with families of the victims of the explosion at Apeate, near Bogoso in the Western Region.
A statement signed by the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church, Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, stressed the need for the country to learn lessons from the disaster.
“We would like to say that we are happy the authorities are doing what they can to get to the bottom of this disaster, and we are hopeful that lessons would be learnt to prevent the recurrence of such a disaster,” the statement stressed.
“As we mourn the lives that have been lost in this disaster, we ask our politicians not to score cheap political points with the tragedy that has befallen the nation, instead they should support national efforts at supporting the victims and their families to come out of their current predicaments,” it added.
The statement commended the combined efforts of the Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces and other emergency groups and organizations providing support and healthcare for the victims and their families.
The Church pledged to rally its congregations and members across the county to offer support in the form of donations of all kinds and other useful materials to the affected victims and their families.
It also encouraged ministers of the Church around the area to offer emotional support and counselling to the victims and the affected families.
“In this time of national grief, we encourage everyone with Isaiah 41:10, which reads, ‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand’,” it added.
