The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, has alleged that Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of #Fixthecountry who has threatened coup in the country, “is working for the former President John Mahama because he served as a presidential staffer under the NDC administration”.
Mr Baffoe’s claim follows the recent treasonable comments by Mr Barker-Vormawor on social media, allegedly describing the army useless and threatening to “do the coup myself” if the E-Levy is passed.
According to Chairman Abronye, the leader of #Fixthecountry was a presidential staffer and worked as Senior Legal and Policy Advisor during the erstwhile Mills/Mahama administration.
“As a senior policy advisor at the Office of the President, he supervised the mismanagement of the economy under the NDC administration and the implementation of policy directives from the IMF as a result of their bailout, which led to the withdrawal of teacher-trainees’ and trainee-nurses’ allowances,” he pointed out in an interview.
“Under the administration he served in, tertiary students were made to pay utility bills, which were free before going to IMF, utility tariffs were added to the school fees of SHS students, embargo was placed on public sector recruitments, there was removal of subsidies on electricity tariffs, there imposition of more taxes on petroleum products, among others,” he noted.
He also noted that whilst Ghanaians were enduring these hardships and suffering, coupled with dumsor, Barker-Vormawor was receiving GH₵ 20,000.00 as monthly remunerations for working with Mahama.
“He enjoyed free fuel, state land cruiser V8, free accommodation at Cantonments under 24 hours’ police protection and several other benefits, including free foreign travels. At the end when NDC was leaving power, he was paid GH₵ 300,000.00 as ex gratia, all at the expense of the tax payers’ money,” Mr Baffoe claimed.
Surprise
The Bono Regional Chairman is surprised that Mr Barker-Vormawor didn’t call the army useless, and did not see the need for the country to be fixed, during the time he was enjoying, adding that he was part of the mess.
He emphasised that the Akufo-Addo government had created several social and youth-driven interventions meant to lessen the suffering of the Ghanaian youth than any other government in the country’s history.
“Despite the fact that the world has been unstable for the last three years, President Akufo-Addo has been able to introduce the Free Senior High School, One-District-One-Factory, Digitalisation, Free Technical Vocational Education, the Planting for food and jobs, the Nation Builders Corps, Youth in Afforestation, NEIP, the Amplified Projects and the Ghana Enterprises Agency for the benefit of the youth,” he cited.
He said while the comment by the #Fixthecountry convener had received several criticisms from a cross section of Ghanaians, it was unfortunate the National Democratic Congress, led by former President Mahama, seemed to be in support of the “treasonous assertion”.
