A national youth organiser hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Atick Yakubu, has urged members of the party to rise up and speak against tyrannical acts of the Ghana Police Service under its current Inspector General, Christian Tetteh Yohunu.
He noted that IGP Yohunu has proven that he does not need any reason to go after members of the NPP, urging them to rise above petty intra-party differences and speak up against the arbitrary arrests of its members.
In a Facebook post commenting on the arrest of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, Atick Yakubu noted that the unfortunate arrest has not received the needed attention from party members as it should, owing to the intra-party politics currently ongoing in the party.
He noted that though he is not a fan of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, his current arrest came about through his defence of the party and opposition to acts of the NDC government and the IGP, making it a concern for all party members.
He cited the recent arrest of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias “Chairman Wontumi”, social media activist Sir Obama Pokuase, TikToker Fante Comedy and a host of NPP social media activists as calculated attempts by the IGP to use intimidation to cow supporters of the party into silence, necessitating concerted efforts from members of the party to rise against such police tyranny.
“And to our party folks, two of your Regional Chairmen have been arrested in the last three months. Arrested and given inhumane treatment. For Wontumi, he hasn’t been the same. Abronye has also started his ordeal. Your Regional Chairmen are being taken on and you think your presidential candidates can’t be touched? These guys don’t need legitimate reasons to come after you. They have proven it several times. If you don’t speak up now, don’t ask us to speak for you when your loved ones are touched. We can be enemies and opponents within, but when it comes to us against outsiders, we should be one,” he noted.
