As Africa aims to become a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology, Efua Dougan, CEO of DS Consortium, says that the focus should no longer be on whether the continent has the talent to succeed in the AI space—it does.
The conversation, she argues, should now be centered on how to mobilize resources, attract investors, and create a nurturing ecosystem that supports and scales AI innovations.
She made these remarks while speaking as a panelist on the topic ‘Leveraging Digital Infrastructure, Innovation, and Technology to Connect Africa’ on Day Two of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025, held at the Accra International Conference on Friday, January 31.
“Africa has brilliant minds, and we must harness this talent through strategic investments in human capital, funding for AI startups, and the development of digital infrastructure,” Dougan stated.
She believes that by fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, the continent can develop AI solutions tailored to its unique challenges, positioning itself as a significant player in the global digital economy
