President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united and resolute, as his government strives to provide good governance and economic development to the people of Ghana.
He also appealed to members and officers of the party to help him achieve the “Break the 8” agenda in the political history of the country.
“I want you to help me achieve the last great political feat of my career in Ghanaian politics, that on January 7, 2025, I will go to Black Star Square to hand the mantle to our next NPP president of the Republic who we would have chosen and supported and brought to victory,” he said.
The President made the call yesterday during the party’s 30 years anniversary and thanksgiving service held at the main auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). The event was under the theme “NPP@30: Our shared tradition, holding and working together a stable and prosperous nation.”
Historic agenda
President Akufo-Addo noted that the ‘breaking the 8’ mantra forms the historic agenda of the party, adding that with the support of God and NPP loyalists, the agenda will be achieved.
“Victory in 2024! Victory in 2024! That’s our goal, that’s our target, and that we will achieve by the grace of God. We best celebrate our progress by remaining united and resolute as we continue to prosecute our historic agenda to provide good governance and economic development to our nation,” he said.
The President explained that the party’s policy is to liberate the energies of the people for the growth of a property-owning democracy with the right to life, freedom and justice as the principles to which the government and laws of the land should be dedicated, in order to specifically enrich life, property and liberty of each and every citizen.
United Front
The General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, called on all members, executives and sympathisers of the party to be guided by history, ahead of the presidential and parliamentary primaries. He cited the split that culminated in the defeat of the Popular Front Party (PFP) in 1979 to the PNP administration and lessons the NPP failed to learn after the John Kufuor administration in 2008.
He pledged, on behalf of the national executives, to act as impartial referee in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries, as an example to constituency and regional executives as well as MPs and MMDCEs.
He also admonished the rank and file of the party to refrain from the use of provocative language, character assassination and lampooning of rivals in the lead-up to the party’s primaries.
