President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, commissioned a newly constructed Astro Turf in Senya Beraku, marking another milestone in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s commitment to infrastructural development and youth empowerment through sports.
The facility, located at the Senya D/A Basic School, was developed with support from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). Mr. Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency and the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya West, played a pivotal role in securing the project.
The initiative aims to promote talent development, enhance sports infrastructure, and provide recreational opportunities for the youth in the area.
Commendation
In his address during the commissioning, President Akufo-Addo lauded the collaborative efforts that brought the project to fruition.
He emphasized the importance of sports as a unifying and developmental tool, stating that the Astro Turf would serve as a hub for nurturing young talent in football and other sporting disciplines.
The President also seized the opportunity to endorse Mr. Eugene Arhin as the NPP’s candidate for the Awutu Senya West Constituency. He urged the community to vote for him and the NPP in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections. He expressed confidence in Mr. Arhin’s leadership and ability to deliver more developmental projects if elected.
Commitment
Speaking at the event, Mr. Eugene Arhin reiterated his commitment to the development of the constituency.
He highlighted several projects he had initiated or facilitated under the current administration, including the construction of the Gomoa Ojobi-Senya road, a newly paved lorry station at Bawjiase, roads linking Bawjiase to Swedru and Adeiso, a 100-seater library and ICT center at Bereku, a mechanized borehole and a bus for Senya Senior High School (SHS), two sheds and three outboard motors for fisherfolk in Senya Beraku, and permanent jobs secured for numerous youths in the constituency.
Mr. Arhin called on the people of Senya and the constituency at large to trust in his vision and vote for the NPP to ensure continuity in development efforts.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by dignitaries including chiefs and elders of the Senya Traditional Council, queenmothers, NPP delegates, footballers, coaches, schoolchildren, and enthusiastic members of the Senya community. The Traditional Council expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo, Mr. Arhin, and the NPP government for their dedication to the area’s development.
Celebrated dancehall artist Samini also graced the occasion, thrilling attendees with his performance. The event concluded with a lively football match between Senya All Stars and Kenpong Academy from Winneba, showcasing the potential of the new facility to host community sporting activities.
