President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo posted the above on his Facebook page after Ghana’s National Under-20 team, the Black Satellites, made another history by winning the 2021 African U-20 championship.
Ghana’s Black Satellites clinched their fourth U-20 Africa Cup of Nations trophy following a 2-0 victory over Uganda at the Stade Olympique de Nouakchott in Mauritania on Saturday.
Heroes of the game
Accra Hearts of Oak’s skipper, Daniel Barnieh, emerged as Ghana’s hero scoring in both halves to ensure the victory over the Cranes, a side who were participating in the tournament for the first time.
Some players in the Ghanaian team also picked individual awards. Abdul Fataw Issahaku was adjudged the best player of the tournament while Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Ibrahim Danlad received the golden glove award.

In a related development, the Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG) has congratulated the National Under-20 male football team for the historic feat.
SWAG commended the team and its officials for defying all odds in this current global pandemic to make the country and themselves proud on Ghana’s Independence Day.
A Statement from SWAG said they were of the belief and hope that this win would pave way for the beginning of more wins for the various national teams in all disciplines at local and international front.
SWAG urged the technical directorate of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure that the country does not lose the young players, but rather keep and groom them for a smooth transition to the various senior national football teams.
SWAG commended coach Abdul Karim Zito for his tactical shrewdness and quick sightedness, saying “It’s pretty obvious given the needed encouragement the Ghanaian coach can be as potent as his counterpart anywhere in the world.”
