An aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman for the Ayensuano Ccnstituency in the Eastern Region, Alexander Apawu Yeboah, has declared his willingness to work tirelessly to help the party recapture its seat, if given the nod, saying the current NDC MP, Addi Safori Teddy, will hand over power to the NPP in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
He has therefore promised to use his sterling leadership and experience to unite the party, especially at the constituency level, and mobilise members to win back the NPP seat as well as help break the eight years governance cycle.
The NPP constituency chairman hopeful gave the assurance in an interview with the Daily Statesman over the weekend in Accra. According to him, the instrumental role he played enabled the party to ‘rule’ in the Ayensuano constituency from 2001 during his tenure as Assembly Member in the area.
Whilst commending the constituency chairman and executives, the former NPP MP, Mr Ayeh-Paye Samuel, for their tremendous contributions towards the party, he noted that it is time for a “new crop of leaders” to build their successes to make the party continue standing tall in the constituency.
All-inclusive party
He said the party’s determination to retain power in 2024 and break the eight-year governance cycle could be realised if members remained united.
“I believe if we’re united, we shall break the eight. Our success will depend on how we conduct ourselves, especially at the constituency level. The party is not built on self-interest. Let’s eschew it, bury our differences, and bring on board everyone because we need all efforts and energies of members to achieve that agenda,” he stated.
“I want to become the constituency chairman to build an all-inclusive NPP at Ayensuano constituency. I will bring all and sundry to the table in order to restore the NPP’s lost seat, break the eight and sustain power beyond 2024,” he added.
Sustaining the party
He added that the constituency executives had functioned for the past twenty years since the party took power from the NDC in 2001. Referring to the party’s loss of the seat in 2020 general elections, he called to questioned leadership in the constituency, and wondered why they would want to remain in office.
“For example, if you’re a head of a family and for 20 years you have been built a house to take care of and you’re unable to do so for such a long period, then you can’t take care of anything when given another opportunity at this time. If for such long years you couldn’t sustain and help the party retain power, then it is questionable. It’s a clear indication that the trust and confidence reposed in you have gone down the drain,” he stated.
He said the 2020 election was tough for the party because of unnecessary divisions and backbiting, and cautioned supporters against resorting to such acts to denigrate the party. He emphasised that the leadership of the party in the constituency, under his watch, would continue to strictly apply the party’s constitution in all matters of concern for the party to remain vibrant.
Appeal
He, therefore, called on party members in the constituency and all party sympathisers to rally behind his candidature.
“Delegates should give the nod to me as the Ayensuano Constituency Chairman in the upcoming polls in order for me to use the best modules and strategies to help the party achieve momentum in restoring back its seat, and help break the eight-year term that has existed for some time in our democratic history,” Mr Apawu Yeboah appealed.
“I witnessed the 2020 elections in the Asuboi Electoral Area, and I must say we were relaxed, but now such mistakes will never happen in the 2024 general elections under my tenure as Chairman for the constituency,” he assured.
