Three armed men, all wearing face masks, last Friday attempted to rob the Adonteng Community Bank in Abomosu, near Kwabeng in the Eastern Region. The attempted robbery resulted in the death of one of the armed robbers.
According to the security man on duty at the time of the incident, Adomako Samuel, the gun wielding men attacked the bank at 1am.
“I was at post when I heard the glass door leading to the bank being broken. I rushed to check and saw three armed men with guns, and they saw me too so I had to run but we exchanged gun shots. They couldn’t take anything. I don’t know what happened, but they fled the scene before I could call for help. It was later, after reporting to the police, that we discovered one of them was dead,” the security man narrated.

According to the police, they received a complaint at about 5am the same day from the security man and the manager of the bank, Bernice Brago, that their bank was almost robbed, and the security man nearly attacked.
The police visited the scene of the crime and found out that the armed men had broken part of the glass door leading to the banking hall and part of the window frame. They further found one empty BB cartridge and a crowbar.
They also combed the area and found the lifeless body of one of the alleged robbers, identified as Annor Joseph, 34, a native of Abomosu, lying dead, at about 120 meters behind the bank.
According to the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Inspector Francis Gomado, the police also found an itel mobile phone lying beside the dead body.
He said the body of the deceased was carefully inspected and gunshot wounds were found in his throat.
The PRO said the mobile phone is being kept as an exhibit to help in further investigations while the body of the deceased was conveyed and deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital morgue for preservation awaiting autopsy.
