Some aspirants in the just ended NPP national executive elections have pledged to work with the newly elected executives to position the party stronger to win the 2024 general elections.
Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, who contested the national chairman position, says he is ready to offer unflinching support to the new officers to help the party ‘break the 8’ years’ governance cycle in 2024.
He has therefore called on all his campaign team members, supporters and well-wishers to support the efforts of the new leadership of the party wherever they find themselves. This, he indicated, would ensure the realisation of the ‘breaking the 8’ agenda to better the lives of Ghanaians.
According to him, his loss of the chairmanship slot should not create apathy among members “but we should rather preach unity of purpose among the rank and file of the party”.
“I am by this message also extending my sincere gratitude to the members of my campaign team, who toiled day and night to propagate the vision of our side to the delegates, and who went through thick and thin to keep the campaign alive despite all odds. Let us all unite with the rank and file of the party to support the campaign efforts of its leadership to ensure victory at all levels for our party,” he said in a statement.
He further acknowledged his campaign team members, supporters and well-wishers, saying “I appreciate your efforts, encouragement and the desire to ensure that, our side won the chairmanship slot”.
“We fought a good fight and thought our side could win the NPP chairmanship slot, but the delegates in their wisdom thought otherwise, and instead settled on Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim, as the Chairman of the NPP in the next four years,” he said in a statement.
He congratulated Mr Stephen Ntim, who won the chairmanship race, and Justin Frimpong Kodua, the new General Secretary, as well as the new executives for their hard-won victory.
More support
Similarly, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, who also contested the national chairman position, has commended Mr Ayesu Ntim for a resounding victory.
“Early this morning, I reached out to our new National Party Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, and congratulated him and his Team. I also told him of my desire and preparedness to avail myself at any time to serve the Party as we seek to re-energise it in winning 2024 general election to break the 8’,” he said in a congratulatory message.
He also thanked everyone who had shared in his vision for coming out with an appealing campaign message throughout the electioneering process.
“I have never witnessed such campaign over the years by anyone aspiring for the position of the NPP national chairman. Although we could not win as we set out to do, we can be proud of a great campaign strategy and the down-to-earth grassroots interactions,” he said.
He asked those who lost in their various bids to remain steadfast and work to build the party, stressing, “we need every hand on board to move the party in the effort to secure victory by breaking the 8”.
“I am hale and hearty, and I urge you all to be also strong and motivated for the journey which lies ahead for the NPP at large. We did what was expected of us but, the Delegates believed that the currently elected Executives can do better,” he indicated.
He added: “I respect their decision without any reservation. I use this opportunity to also congratulate all newly elected Executives on their respective Victory, and my other contenders as well. I continuously remain your humble servant”.
