The chief of Assakae, in Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region, Nana Asante Kwadwo II, and his people have commended the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources for clearing an ‘ancient’ dump site in his area.
The chief, who described the exercise as a huge relief, applauded the sector Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and the NPP government for their relentless efforts to make Ghana a clean country.
Nana Asante Kwadwo II gave the commendation while speaking to journalists at Assakae when the Emergency National Refuse Evacuation exercise took place at the town.
Toilet facilities
The Municipal Chief Executive for EFKMA, Kofi Acquah, revealed that the Assembly would build public toilet facilities and also station waste containers at the site, following the evacuation exercise.
These facilities, he stressed, would be kept under very strict hygienic conditions when completed.
He praised President Akufo-Addo and the sector Minister for their hard work.
Scores of residents also expressed appreciation to the government for the exercise.
“We can now heave a sigh of relief, especially when the government has come to our aid to clear this stinking aged heap of dump site,” one of the residents, Ato Mensah, said.
According to Mr George Amoako, another resident, the dump site had been contributing to several sicknesses in the community.
“And so it is a good thing that the Ministry are evacuating our dump site,” he added.
The exercise is expected to continue in other dump sites in the region.
