The opposition National Democratic Congress has suffered another casualty, with its former chairman for Awutu Senya West, Simon Duodu, and some executives in the constituency ditching the party for the ruling New Patriotic Party.
At an introduction ceremony to welcome the defectors into the NPP, they said they were defecting to join for a party with better policies.
Mr Duodu, who led the other members, said the NDC had never implemented a single social intervention programme while in government.
“We are here for a reason. Our reason is to support what we believe is a good cause. Though we were born and brought up as dyed-in-the-wool NDC members, we believe, comparatively, the NPP is doing better than the NDC. The development of our constituency matters,” he said.
Social interventions
He added that the NPP is attractive because of the numerous social intervention programmes it has introduced over the years.
According to him, the NPP has made it a priority to implement policies that help ordinary citizens, with their Members of Parliament actively involved.
He said policies such as Free SHS, NABCO, One Village, One Dam, One District One Factory, among others, are some of the interventions that have helped better the lives of Ghanaians.
Comparing the achievements of the former NDC MP and the incumbent MP and Deputy Minister for Communications, George Andah, the defectors said they believe Mr Andah has really done better.
“I am very hopeful that, come December 7, President Akufo-Addo will be declared winner of the elections, with the MP for this area, George Andah being re-elected as MP,” he added.
Also, a former assemblyman and Area Council chairman of the NDC, Kwabena Ofori, appealed to all NDC members in the Awutu Senya West constituency to ‘see the light’ and join them to make the constituency a better place.
He asked for an end to the one-term syndrome, saying any vote against the incumbent MP, Nenyi George Andah, will “retrogress the progress of Awutu Senya.”
