The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has underscored the importance of efficient resource utilization among newly inducted Assembly Members in the country.
He said this when he delivered a speech on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the inaugural ceremony of the newly elected Assembly Members at Ayawaso Central in Accra.
Mr Asamoah Boateng urged them to maximize their effectiveness despite limited allocations. He stressed the need for prudent management of resources while assuring discussions with the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to secure increased allocations for Assembly members.
Strong ties
The Minister conveyed the President’s congratulatory message to the newly inaugurated members, urging them to foster strong working relationships with Members of Parliament, colleagues, traditional authorities, and Municipal and District Chief Executives to enhance local governance.
He emphasised the President’s commitment to supporting their endeavors and encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the Local Government Act to effectively discharge their duties.
President Akufo-Addo further charged the new Assembly members to acquaint themselves with the intricacies of the Local Government Act and explore innovative approaches to mobilize funds necessary for the development of their respective localities.
The President reaffirmed government’s dedication to empowering grassroots governance structures and fostering community-led development initiatives.
Induction of Assemblymen
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the induction of twelve new Assembly members into office, alongside their unit committee members.
This influx of fresh leadership underscores the democratic process and represents a significant milestone in local governance.
