Kwesi Botchway Jnr., a communications team member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed that former President Dramani Mahama is a figure synonymous with corruption, and would jeopardize Ghana’s progress and future if he is voted into power in 2024.
In a statement, Kwesi Botchway said: “John Mahama embodies corruption. His tenure as president was marred by numerous scandals and inefficiencies that have left lasting scars on our nation”.
He reiterated that choosing the NDC flagbearer would be detrimental to the country’s development, citing concerns over financial mismanagement and lack of accountability during Mahama’s previous administration. He said the former President would undo the progress the country had made under the New Patriotic Party (NPP)- led administration.
He believes Mr Mahama and the opposition NDC cannot continue from where NPP will leave off, but would run the country aground, if given the opportunity to steer affairs once again.
He emphasised that the NPP was committed to maintaining the country’s trajectory of development and stability.
NDC social intervention programme?
He buttressed this claim by stressing on social intervention policies introduced by the NPP government, and challenged NDC to name a single intervention programme they have introduced to serve the people.
“The claim they are socialist inclined, but they can’t boast of any socially oriented development intervention in the times they governed this country. The NPP has served Ghana better than any administration of the NDC, and the reason is that we have initiated bold policies that have served the good people of this country unlike the NDC,” he said
He indicated that the “NDC only knows how to criticize, and whenever they come to power, they either destroy or make the policies useless and impracticable”. Accordingly, he prayed that the electorate would ignore what he described as deceitful propaganda strategy by the NDC in the upcoming December 7 polls.
No way for Mahama
He also called on Mr Mahama to acknowledge his past failures, and apologize to Ghanaians. According to him, Mr Mahama’s attempt to return to power is marked by opportunism, inconsistent policies and destruction.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr highlighted Mr Mahama’s statement from 2016, where he asserted that “4 years is not enough for any president” and that the framers of the constitution provided for a second term.
He questioned why Mr Mahama decided to seek a return to power, given that he has only one four-year term remaining. He, therefore, indicated that Mr Mahama’s quest for re-election may be driven by ego or ambition, rather than a genuine desire to serve.
He argued that the economic challenges caused by Mahama’s previous administration continue to affect Ghanaians.
Bawumia ideal leader
Botchway Jnr. praised the NPP flagbearer, Vice- President Mahamudu Bawumia, positioning him as the ideal candidate to secure Ghana’s future. “Dr. Bawumia is not just a leader; he is a visionary who has demonstrated remarkable competence and integrity,” Botchway Jnr. stressed .
He touted Dr Bawumia’s role in economic reforms, technological advancements, and his efforts to streamline governance as key attributes that make him a suitable candidate to continue leading Ghana.
The NPP communications team member further urged voters to consider the long-term implications of their choices. “We have made significant strides under this administration, and Bawumia’s leadership is crucial to continuing this progress. The choice is clear: to protect our future and sustain our gains, we must support Dr. Bawumia,” he stressed.
