Co-founder of Narrow Path International Ministries, Dr. Evelyn Sefakor Augustt, has underscored the importance of seeking counselling during marriage as a key measure in preventing divorce.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Dr. Augustt noted that the rising rate of divorce in recent times could largely be attributed to couples’ failure to seek counselling after marriage. According to her, many marriages could have been sustained if couples gave the same attention to post-marital issues as they did to pre-marital preparations.
“Although many pastors continue to emphasize the importance of counselling before marriage, not enough attention is given to the need for ongoing counselling after couples have tied the knot,” she said.
Dr. Augustt explained that it was often after marriage that couples come to terms with the full extent of their differences, and counselling at that stage becomes crucial to addressing those issues before they escalate.
“People have different attitudes and behaviours that may not show up during courtship. These often become evident only in marriage. It is, therefore, important that couples seek counselling early when issues arise, rather than wait until things deteriorate to the point of divorce,” she advised.
She added that counselling during marriage not only helps resolve conflicts but also improves intimacy, enhances understanding of each other’s weaknesses, and fosters mutual appreciation and happiness in the relationship.
Seek counselling
Dr. Augustt further encouraged people, regardless of their social status, to seek counselling even after praying about important decisions.
The Managing Director of Trent UK emphasised that many individuals could have made better strides in their careers or personal lives if they had accessed professional or spiritual counselling.
“Some people are confused about their life’s direction and purpose. They go through life without clarity. Support from a professional counsellor is one of the surest ways to navigate such challenges,” she stated.
Dr. Augustt, who holds a Doctorate in Executive Leadership, has counselled numerous couples, helping them navigate the complexities of married life and build stronger relationships.
She is also widely known for her prophetic gifts, through which she offers spiritual direction while approaching each marital situation with compassion, understanding, and a commitment to the principles of God’s love and truth.
Bringing a unique blend of spiritual insight and academic expertise to her practice, Dr. Augustt is dedicated to strengthening marriages and empowering families within communities across the globe.
