Ahead of the December 7 general elections, members of the governing NPP in the Abuakwa North constituency who contested and lost in the party’s parliamentary primaries held in June have thrown their weights behind the incumbent MP, Gifty Twum-Ampofo.
The aspirants the victory of the NPP is paramount and would therefore not do anything that will deny the party a second term in office.
Addressing a gathering of NPP supporters after a successful “walking into victory” health exercise, Kay Amoah Junior, a defeated aspirant, advised the constituents not to be deceived by anyone who tries to influence their decision to vote against the incumbent MP.
He said politics is a game of patience and understanding, and called on his supporters to go out in their numbers on December 7 to vote for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Ms Twum-Ampofo.
Retrogression
He stated that “voting against our own parliamentary candidates will be a disgrace to the party and an unwelcome surprise to the massive development that has been started by this government.”
“Don’t let any opposition candidate deceive you that they can work with President Akufo-Addo; they are lying. Let’s vote for our candidate and garner more votes for His Excellency to continue the good work he has started with his able Ministers and MPs,” he added.
Ms Twum-Ampofo, for her part, said the area will retrogress should the NPP lose the seat.
“Don’t take your coloured TV away and go in for a black and white TV. That’s a total disrespect to your livelihood and a big retrogression in your life. For us to continue witnessing good things and development in Abuakwa North and Ghana as a whole, let’s vote to maintain the NPP and vote for all parliamentary candidates of the party who are number 1 on the ballot paper,” she said.
