Dr. Amos Apraku, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), has rallied support for Lawrence Agyinsam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Hemang Lower Denkyira, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of Ghana’s upcoming December elections.
In an interview on Tuanko 94.1 FM, Dr. Apraku emphasized the importance of leadership in these challenging times, urging Ghanaians to choose leaders who are committed to moving the country forward.
Dr. Apraku, who is also a member of the University Lecturers for Free SHS Ghana, touched on the hardships Ghanaians faced under Mahama, describing the current economic situation as “ far more better.” He said the nation needs strong leadership to navigate these difficult times. According to Dr. Apraku, individuals like Lawrence Agyinsam and Dr. Bawumia are crucial to leading Ghana into a brighter future. “Now is the time to have someone like Bawumia and Lawrence to come and lead,” he said, stressing the need for continuity and stability in the nation’s leadership.
Commendation
The lecturer also took the opportunity to commend the NPP government, particularly for its landmark achievement in education—the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. Dr. Apraku described the policy as a bold step that has made secondary education accessible to all Ghanaian children, regardless of their financial background. He praised the government’s efforts in ensuring that students from low-income families can access quality education without the burden of school fees.
“The Free SHS policy has played a significant role in bridging the educational gap between privileged and underprivileged communities,” Dr. Apraku noted.
He explained that by providing free secondary education, the policy has created opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to reach their full potential. This, he believes, has contributed to a reduction in educational inequality and helped create a more inclusive and equitable education system across the country.
Dr. Apraku also highlighted the positive impact of Free SHS on national development. He pointed out that by enhancing human capital through a better-educated population, the policy is fostering innovation and contributing to economic growth. “The initiative has enabled many families to break the cycle of poverty, which aligns with the country’s broader national development goals,” he added.
Vote NPP
As the December elections approach, Dr. Apraku urged the constituents of Hemang Lower Denkyira and Ghanaians at large to unite behind the NPP government and support the party’s bid to “break the eight”. He called on the public to recognize the importance of continuity in the nation’s development journey and to vote for leaders who have demonstrated commitment to progress.
