The Electoral Commission has asked Ghanaians who will be visiting the 33,367 polling centres from today to check their details in the voters register to look out for the exception list in case their names mistakenly appear on that list.
This is because according to the EC, persons whose names appear in the exception list will not have the chance to vote in this year’s general election.
Names on the exception list comprises of voters who flouted the regulations of the registration exercise.
Speaking at its ‘Let the Citizens Know’ series yesterday in Accra, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, said same method will be undertaken for persons who have been identified for multiple registration.
“The Commission will also display the multiples list which consist of names of persons who have engaged in multiple registrations and therefore cannot vote in the upcoming election,” the EC boss added.
Digital exhibition
The Commission will today activate a short message service (SMS) platform to enable registered voters to check their registration details as captured in the 2020 voters’ register.
This will form part of the exhibition exercise for the register and is available to all registered voters on the shortcode 1422 at a cost of 0.30pesewas as an alternative to visiting exhibition centres.
It said voters who have already attempted accessing the service will have to wait till it is activated for their details to be sent to them.
Such voters, however, do not have to re-assess the service upon its activation.
The week-long exercise will run from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm each day, including Saturday and Sunday.
