The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin, has officially given an indication to invade the political ring, with the filing of his nomination forms, to contest the Awutu Senya West constituency primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking to party loyalists after filing his forms yesterday, Mr Arhin said their presence had further boosted his confidence to believe that they would help to recapture the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He promised that he would send the current Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Hon Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, packing on December 7, 2024.
“It is left with 486 days for us to go to the polls. It is left with 486 days for us to vote out the MP. It is left with 486 days for us to give to the people of Awutu Senya West the needed development,” Mr Arhin declared.
The aspiring parliamentary candidate expressed the hope that he would win the upcoming parliamentary primaries, looking at the number of party faithful who had openly come around to support him. He appealed to the delegates to give him 95% of the votes.
Clean campaign
The Director of Communications urged his supporters to refrain from dirty campaign against colleague aspirants, assuring the traditional authorities and religious leaders around that he would conduct clean, issue-based campaign, devoid of personal attacks.
“If after December 7, you elect me as your Member of Parliament, the development you see in Winneba will be experienced in our constituency, even more,” he assured them.
He also touted the achievements of the Akufo-Addo government in the constituency, saying within the space of seven years, the President had constructed the Bawjiasse-Adieso, Bawjiase-Ofaakor and Akoti Junction-Senya Beraku roads.
“We are building a 60-bed Agenda 111 District Hospital. Bawjiase Astro Turf is being constructed, and I am also doing my best,” he added.
He said if the party loyalists would preach the good news to the electorate, they would definitely win back the seat.
For his part, the NPP Awutu Senya West Constituency Secretary, Mr Douglas Yawson, confirmed that they had received and examined the submitted forms, and everything is intact.
He also reiterated the party’s readiness to take the seat back from the current NDC Member of Parliament, judging from the massive support Mr Arhin had received on submitting his forms.
