Many people have died with their God-given talents just because they did not get the opportunity to put them to use. In such cases, the talented persons and the nation lose greatly.
In the event that such individuals are forced to engage in social vices or criminal activities, the society bears the consequences.
The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, seems to understand this, and has therefore been doing his best to ensure that the talented youth in the Awutu Senya West Constituency are given the opportunity to put their talent to use.
Since Mr Arhin showed his face in the constituency in 2018, a lot of things have happened. Aside delivering his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from shame by paying the rent of its district office at Awutu Beraku, he has lobbied for hundreds of youth to get recruited into the public sector.
If not for his timely intervention, a whole party in power would have been thrown out of their office accommodation for failure to pay their rent. After paying the rent, he furnished the office with modern office furniture to give it a face lift.
Impact
However, his people greatly felt his impact from the beginning of 2021 when he stormed the constituency with a clear cut development agenda. After calling on the two Paramountcies, in, the Awutu Senya West Constituency, that is, the Awutu and Senya-Beraku Traditional Councils, to share his vision with the chiefs, one project or the other happened.
Nonetheless, this article looks at how the good works of the Director of Communications at the Presidency, led to the discovery of a great talent for the Ghana Police Service and Mother Ghana.
Appreciative of the fact that he is able to do great things for his community because he had opportunity to serve mother Ghana, Mr Arhin made it a point to help qualified youth in the Constituency to secure jobs, especially with the security agencies and other government institutions. Through his efforts, hundreds of youth from the Awutu Senya West Constituency have gotten employment with either the Ghana Armed Forces, Prison Service, Immigration Service or the Police Service.
Among the youth he has lobbied job opportunities for, one of them emerged the best police recruit with the Regional Police Training School, Kumasi. Without the intervention of Mr Arhin, who heartily chose to support G/R Amoah Kelvin to pursue his passion, the young man could have ended up doing what he lacks passion for or in the worst situation, die with his talent.
Intervention
While Kelvin’s friends gladly flooded his pictures on social media, I asked myself one question: what if Mr Arhin had not intervened? The Ghana Police Service and Mother Ghana could have missed out the services of such a competent young man.
A lot can be learned from the celebrated young man. Those who are still under training with the other security agencies should work harder and also sweep awards. This will encourage Mr Arhin to do more for the youth who have similar visions.
Highly connected people from the constituency should also emulate the good example of Mr Arhin and help the youth rather than always using them to advance their parochial partisan interests.
The latest hero of Awutu Senya West Constituency, G/R Amoah Kelvin, should also make it a point to give his best to mother Ghana and his family, not forgetting to also touch lives in the same manner Mr Arhin has touched his.
On his part, the Director of Communications at the Presidency should consider making it an agenda to scout for youth like Kelvin in his effort to helping them develop their talent.
The constituency as a whole should also pray and push good hearted people like Mr Arhin to give back to society. What he is currently doing in Awutu Senya West Constituency shows that he would do more with more power and resources.
