Fast-rising Ghanaian powerlifter and strongman, Evans Nana Ekow Aryee, popularly known as ‘Evans the Hulk’, has once again lifted high the flag of Ghana by emerging as the first runner-up in the just-ended East Flanders Strongest Competition held in Belgium.
The competition took place over the weekend with spectacular display of strength and toughness. East Flanders strongest is an annual regional competition held in Belgium out of the four regions namely, Brussels, West Flanders, East Flanders, and Wallonia.
His win also gives him an automatic qualification into next year’s Belgium Strongest Competition. Shortly after winning the silver medal, Evans expressed gratitude to God, his family and fans for their unflinching support.
“This is my first time participating professionally in a such competition. I am grateful to God, my family, friends and supporters for their immense support throughout my period of preparation and the competition. Like towards the start of this competition, the training hasn’t been easy, but I kept on with the hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Focus
Touching on his next line of action and focus, ‘Evan the Hulk’ disclosed that he will start preparing and training assiduously for other competitions in the not so distant future.
“I am particularly targeting the gold…I believe it is attainable through hard work and perseverance. Most especially Belgium’s Strongest, where I hope to become an overall winner and once again, put Ghana on the international map with relation to powerlifting,” he noted.
According to him, he looks forward to winning Belgium’s Strongest the next time, and would go the extra mile to make it a reality.
“As it is very typical of me, I have always had a connection with Ghana and the key amongst the things I want to do, is to promote the sport, especially in Ghana… So winning this competition helps that draw and draws me closer to achieving this goal,” Evans intimated.
Winners of the regional competitions get to participate in the upcoming Belgium’s Strongest, which is expected come off in 2023.
Glory
Amongst the events that were held at the competition includes a Truck pull of 18 tons and a Long last man standing with 140kg, both of which Evans came first. He also came third medley with 330kg and the stones-up 160kg.
The Ghanaian-born athlete has over the years lifted high the flag of Ghana by leading competitions in Belgium and other European countries.
Recently, Evans was adjudged Belgian deadlift record holder with a total of 338kg. He also competed in FIBO, one of the biggest fitness competitions in the world.
Evans is tipped for greatness as he continues to challenge the status quo and lift high the flag of Ghana in international weightlifting competitions.
