First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has donated an amount of GH₵50,000 to the Apeate Support Fund to complement government’s efforts to rebuild the community as well as provide relief for affected persons.
This donation by Mrs Akufo-Addo follows earlier donations from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Pelangio Exploration Inc, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minerals Commission, making her the fifth to donate to support the fund
The First Lady disclosed that she had already made an earlier donation of some relief items sent out to the victims of Apeate when the incident first occurred.
She said the incident was a huge tragedy that had troubled all Ghanaians, adding that, as a senior citizen of Ghana and a mother full of empathy for her children, it is only right that she also adds her contribution to help Apeate.
The First Lady also encouraged all Ghanaians to do what they can to help restore the livelihoods of the people of Apeate.
Receiving the donation, the chairperson of the Fund, Dr. Joyce Aryee, on behalf of the committee, expressed her profound gratitude to the First Lady for her empathetic gesture to the reconstruction of the Apeate community.
She said the First Lady had proven that she is indeed a mother of the nation who takes keen interest in issues involving women and children.
In a related development, the Chinese Embassy in Ghana also presented a cheque for GH₵50,000 to support the aim of the fund. Their donation makes them the first Embassy in Ghana to contribute towards the fund.
