The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, has announced that members who have forfeited their membership under Article 3(9)(1) of the Party’s Constitution will not be allowed to participate in the Party’s upcoming Presidential Primaries.
According to him, such members have automatically lost their voting rights and will, therefore, be excluded from the electoral process scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
“Members who have forfeited their membership under Article 3(9)(1) shall be excluded from the process. Therefore, they shall not participate or vote in the Presidential election on Saturday, January 31, 2026,” he declared.
Hon. Osei Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, made this statement during a press conference held at the NPP Headquarters at Asylum Down, Accra, on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The event was part of the Committee’s ongoing engagements to brief the public and the media on preparations toward the 2026 presidential primaries.
He emphasised that the Committee, established by the Party’s National Council in July 2025, is committed to ensuring a transparent, credible, and fair electoral process that upholds the integrity of the NPP’s internal democracy.
The Committee’s mandate, he explained, includes planning, organising, supervising, and executing the entire presidential election process. In line with this, several key activities, such as the nationwide voter album verification exercise, have already been completed.
During the verification exercise, the Committee identified a number of delegates who had either passed away or forfeited their membership as stipulated by the Party’s Constitution. Joe Wise noted that this verification process was crucial to maintaining the credibility of the Party’s voter register ahead of the primaries.
He also reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to fairness, stressing that the rules governing the election would be applied without bias or exception.
“The Committee’s work is guided by transparency, accountability, and fairness. We are determined to deliver a process that reflects the democratic values of the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.
The 2026 NPP Presidential Primaries, scheduled for January 31, will elect a flagbearer to lead the Party into the next general elections. The exercise will be supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, with strict security oversight provided by the Ghana Police Service to ensure order and credibility.
