The Ghana Flying Disc Federation (GFDF) held its 2024 Annual Congress on Monday at the GFDF Headquarters Annex at La in Accra. The meeting was attended by members from all eight regional associations.
The president of the federation, Desmond Kwame Mantey, welcomed delegates from the various regional associations and provided a brief overview of the development of disc sports in Ghana.
Mr. Mantey acknowledged the steady progress made so far, and emphasised the need for more stakeholders to support the federation in achieving its mission of promoting disc sports for youth development across Ghana.
Dependence
Delivering the keynote address, vice president Peter Asiedu, highlighted the dependence of disc sports’ growth on the availability of diverse resources. He urged corporate sponsors to support the federation’s efforts to realize its objectives.
The Technical Director of the federation, Frank Teddy Boakye, stressed the importance of training technical staff to promote the game, particularly at the grassroots level.
He also called on the National Sports Authority for technical support. Additionally, Andy Holton, the Disc Golf International Liaison Director, underscored the need to encourage more universities to introduce disc golf into their programmes.
The congress centered primarily on grassroots development of disc sports in Ghana. The final sessions featured two presentations on disc golf and ultimate Frisbee, sparking discussions on advancing these games nationwide.
Urge
In his closing remarks, President Desmond Kwame Mantey urged elected officeholders to take their responsibilities seriously and work diligently to ensure the GFDF achieves its goals. He expressed gratitude to all speakers, regional chairpersons, and members for their contributions and looked forward to fostering a productive working relationship.
Feedback from delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with several attendees describing the GFDF 2024 Annual Congress as a success.
