The Ghana Flying Disc Federation (GFDF) has successfully organised its 2026 National Coaches Training Workshop, a major step towards strengthening the technical and developmental foundations of flying disc sports in the country.
The one-day intensive workshop was held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Nungua Town Park in Accra, bringing together coaches, physical education instructors, sports development officers and emerging leaders from across Ghana.
Facilitated by Frisbee Connects from the Netherlands, the training focused on building the capacity of local coaches as the sport continues to grow steadily among Ghana’s youth. Participants engaged in both practical and theoretical sessions designed to improve coaching standards in Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf, while also deepening understanding of rules, athlete development, safety measures and injury prevention.
A key highlight of the workshop was the emphasis on the “Spirit of the Game,” a defining principle of flying disc sports that promotes integrity, sportsmanship, teamwork and mutual respect among players.
Speaking at the event, President of the Federation, Mr. Desmond Kwame Mantey, reaffirmed GFDF’s commitment to developing a structured and professional coaching system that will enhance competitions nationwide and accelerate grassroots expansion.
He noted that investing in coaches remains one of the most effective ways of multiplying impact in communities, as trained coaches serve as mentors and drivers of youth development.
“This workshop represents our commitment to building strong technical foundations for the sport in Ghana. When we train coaches, we multiply impact. Every trained coach becomes a catalyst for youth development in their community,” the Federation stated.
Beyond the training sessions, the workshop also created opportunities for networking, collaboration and strategic discussions aimed at strengthening regional flying disc activities and expanding participation across the country.
Flying disc sports, particularly Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf, have been gaining popularity in schools, universities and youth groups. Through initiatives such as the National Coaches Training Workshop, the Federation hopes to develop certified local coaches, promote inclusivity across gender and age groups, and prepare national teams for future international competitions.
The Ghana Flying Disc Federation expressed appreciation to Frisbee Connects from the Netherlands, as well as all participants, partners, volunteers and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme.
The 2026 National Coaches Training Workshop marks another important milestone in GFDF’s efforts to position Ghana as a leading flying disc nation on the African continent.
