The government has commissioned and handed over 17 ultra-modern fully furnished schools, built by the Ministry of Education through the Valco Trust Fund with support from the Ministry of Energy, to beneficiary schools.
The completed schools consist of 14 Kindergarten, two Junior High School and one Primary school blocks.
The cost involved in a single kindergarten building was Gh₵324,994, whilst one JHS building also cost Gh₵623, 76, with the cost of one primary building being Gh₵762,931.
Government’s commitment
Speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday at Abomosu, in the Eastern Region, to officially commission all the 17 ultra-modern classroom blocks, the Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, said government is doing its best to eradicate all schools under tree.
He noted that one of the visions of President Akufo-Addo is to provide quality and free education to all Ghanaians.
The Deputy Education Minister added: “It is in line with this that has hastened the completion of 1,001 school building projects inherited from the previous government”.
He disclosed that the government had successfully completed and handed over 2,016 school projects since 2017.
The Chief Executive Officer of Valco Trust Fund, Kelvin Yeboah, said his organisation is ready to help and partner government to eliminate all schools under trees and the re-construction of all other school structures.
Mr Yeboah urged teachers to instill the culture of maintenance in the students so as to ensure that the buildings last longer.
“When the school building is maintained carefully, it will encourage other agencies to partner the government to build more schools across the country,” he said.
Beneficiary schools
The beneficiary schools include Abomosu Primary School, Akrofufu Presby JHS, in the Eastern Region; Teong Kindergarten, Gambrongo Awiadone Kindergarten, in the Upper East Region; Dansokrom M/A Kindergarten and Kotosaa D/A Kindergarten, both in the Western North Region; Aboabugya JHS, in the Ashanti Region; Kambonsiya D/A Kindergarten, in the Northern Region; Ayitikorpe D/A Kindergarten, in the Volta Region; and Bagro Odumase Kindergarten, in the Oti Region.
The rest are Zakum Kindergarten, in the Savannah Region; Nkwantabisa D/A KG, Ahafo Region; Awisa M/A KG, Bono Region; Obrayeko KG, Central Region; Yao-Yiri M/A KG, Upper West Region; Junction Mangoase D/A KG, Bono East; and Kparibu Marakaz KG in the North East Region.
The Kindergarten buildings are made up of 2-unit classrooms, canteen, modern WC washrooms with tiles, mechanised boreholes, furniture, book shelves, storeroom and an office for the head teacher, and ceiling fans in all the classrooms and electricity connected to the national grid.
The JHS buildings are also made up of 3-unit classroom blocks, canteen, 6-unit modern WC washrooms with tiles, mechanised boreholes, furniture, book shelves storeroom and an office for the head teacher, library with furniture, ceiling fans in all the classrooms and electricity connected to the national grid. The primary school building also come with the same features.
