Polling station, electoral area and constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party showed their readiness to work with Jeff Konadu Addo, aspiring Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, when they took over his campaign this week.
The NPP will be having its regional delegates congresses across the country this weekend to elect new officers. Ahead of the congress, the various candidates have intensified their campaigns to solicit votes.
To this end, Mr Konadu has also deepened his campaign as the day of the congress draws nigh. To his surprise, the party’s grassroots, with their own resources, have been following him around, declaring support for his candidature.
Constituency officers and some grassroots communicators of the party who, willingly, traveled with him across the region testified of his good works as a regional secretary, expressing hope that he would do more when elected as the chairman.
“We know him, we have worked with him, and we know he can do the work. Many are the false news being circulated, but we have every confidence in him that he would deliver,” Lower Manya Krobo constituency secretary, Goldman Dodzie Awuku, said during one of Mr Konadu’s campaign tours.
Grassroot welfare
Enthused by the spontaneous support, Mr Konadu has assured the supporters that their welfare will be his priority when elected.
“We need to care for each other. Your welfare should be a collective affair, and for this reason, I intend to set up a fund that will take care of all of us,” he assured.
He indicated that, with the support shown to him, he would not turn his back on the grassroots when given the nod.
“I will involve you in every decision that I take when given the nod. We cannot fail the masses; we need to maintain power. To achieve this will entail your collective support and opinions. At no time would your opinions be rubbished, you shall be fully involved in my administration,” he emphasized.
Mr Konadu also encouraged the constituency executives and the grassroots not to lose hope in the government, but to continue to propagate the good policies and achievements of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This, he said, is the only means by which the NPP could break the eight years governance cycle.
