Joe Ghartey and wife responding to cheers from party supporters

A former Attorney General and presidential hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joe Ghartey, has expressed his unwavering commitment to bringing prosperity and blessings to Ghana if given the nod to lead the NPP, and subsequently elected as the country’s next President.
Mr Ghartey said this after filing his completed nomination forms on Saturday at the NPP headquarters, where he captivated the crowd with his vision for a brighter future, and outlined his plans to uplift the nation. He was the last prospective candidate to file his nomination.
Addressing enthusiastic supporters, Mr Ghartey made reference to Proverbs 29:2, emphasizing the profound impact righteous governance can have on the well-being and happiness of a nation’s citizens. He drew attention to the timeless wisdom encapsulated within the biblical passage, which reads, “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan”.
Leadership
He, therefore, stressed that leaders should strive to uphold righteousness, fairness and justice, as their actions have a direct impact on the overall happiness and well-being of the people they serve.
The NPP presidential hopeful also believes that when leaders act with integrity, and work towards the betterment of society, their efforts will be reflected in the joy and contentment of the people they govern. Conversely, he argued, when leaders act wickedly, placing personal gain above the common good, the result is a disillusioned and suffering populace.
He expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he had received throughout his campaign. He added that his presidency would be marked by progress, unity and transformation for the people of Ghana.
Touting his track record as a public servant, Mr Ghartey highlighted his accomplishments in promoting infrastructure development, job creation, and economic growth during his tenure as the Minister of Railways Development. He pledged to build on these achievements, and tackle the pressing challenges facing Ghana, including unemployment, poverty, and inadequate healthcare.
Narrative
The former Minister of Railways Development indicated that, if given the nod to lead the NPP, and subsequently becomes President, he would bring a new direction and leadership that will restore confidence in the country.
He also promised to strengthen the economy and change the narrative of Ghana’s politics, assuring that he will “fight for Ghana until it becomes where the citizenry wants it to be”.
“My Government and Ghanaians will transform Ghana. When I got here to file, they said I’m the last to file and I reminded them that “the first shall be the last and the last the first. Together, we will transform this nation, we will take this nation to the next level. My desire to become President of Ghana is to be a blessing to all Ghanaians,” he reiterated.
The former Attorney General said he was confident he would be among the first five who would be selected for the Super Delegates Conference in August. He said regardless of his position he would be part of the first five and would go to win the main election as NPP’s flagbearer in November.
Mr Ghartey told the gathering that the electoral college for the Special Delegates Congress was less than one percent of the over 200,000 people who would vote in November for the flagbearer.
“If it is God’s will, I will be the President of Ghana. By God’s grace, everything I touch is blessed, and I will be a blessing unto this country. I will be visiting the delegates in this stage of my campaign. It is called ‘The Walking and Talking Campaign’. The time for noise and funfair would come, but at this stage the campaign would be strategic and not necessarily noisy,” he indicated.
