A Justice of the Court of Appeal, Dennis Dominic Adjei, will deliver a public lecture to commemorate this year’s World Press Freedom Day (WPFD 2023), scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Kofi Yeboah, indicated that Justice Adjei, who is also Justice of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights based in Arusha, Tanzania, will address the local theme: “Freedom of expression: A driver for all other human rights for Ghana’s development.”
A flag-raising ceremony will precede the public lecture, all of which will take place at the Forecourt of the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra.
“A book exhibition, which is a major side attraction for the day, will open at 8am ahead of the public lecture scheduled to start at 9:30am. The book exhibition will display books written by Ghanaian journalists and other authors on the media and other topics that the public may be interested in acquiring,” the statement said.
The lecture will be chaired by Mrs Gifty Affenyi Dadzie, a former President of the GJA and Member of the Council of State.
Ministers of state, Members of Parliament, members of the Diplomatic Corps, media partners, media practitioners, media trainers, and students are expected to attend the ceremony.
The global theme for WPFD 2023 is: “Shaping a future of rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”.
