The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, has donated food and other items to some patients at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Manhyia Government Hospital.
The items included one hundred chairs and stools to provide convenience to mothers whose babies will be admitted to the unit.
The donation formed part of activities to mark the Asantehemaa’s 5th anniversary celebration, dubbed “The role of the contemporary Queen Mothers”.
Nana Agyakoma Dufie III was accompanied by a bevy of elderly women from her community and a delegation of queen mothers to grace the ceremony where they also made the presentations.
On behalf of the Asantehemaa, Nana Agyakoma Dufie III also settled all medical bills of patients at the Mother-Baby Unit, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PIEU) and the Paediatric Emergency Unit(PEU) at KATH.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was enstooled as the Asantehemaa with the stool name Nana Konadu Yiadom III, after succeeding her mother and predecessor Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died on 15 November 2016. Before her demise, she had sat on the great throne as Asantehemaa for 39 years.
At the time (2017) that she (Nana Konadu Yiadom III) ascended the stool, she was 83 years old.
She was outdoored as the new Asantehemaa by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, on Saturday 6 May 2017, which also marked the Otumfuo’s 67th birthday, at a ceremony at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
