The Komenda College of Education Old Students Association (KOSA) has gifted a Toyota Vitz car to Ms. Dorcas Margaret Madjitey, a victim of spinal bifida disease.
The gift is intended to support her charity, Dorcas Margaret Foundation (DMF), which has a vision to reach out to persons with disabilities to help them assuage their sufferings and get through their social barriers.
At a brief ceremony on Monday, Gifty Adwoa Nyomi, a member of KOSA 82, who is also the project coordinator, said the donation was funded by the KOSA 1979-1983 year groups who thought it wise to provide the young, passion-driven beneficiary a car for her safe commuting as a social worker.
Madam Nyomi also urged alumni of other institutions to mobilise funds to support and show love to the vulnerable in society, adding that “the world will be a better place and the future we want to see if the more than the 1,000 old students’ associations are impacting the lives of others each year”.
According to her, the beneficiary is making a huge difference in the society, despite her predicament
“This is what can be achieved and more when mates come together in support of a worthy cause. I describe her as a survivor because this condition kills many children at their very early stages…it is a rare birth defect, which affects a baby’s spinal cord,” she noted.
The Toyota Vitz, she explained, has some special features which unlock itself as the key gets nearer the car, without pressing any button. It is also environmentally friendly, as it consumes little fuel on its 1000 cubic capacity engine.
Appreciation
Taking her maiden ride, Ms Madjitey who was overwhelmed by what she described as a “deep show of love”, expressed profound gratitude to the 1979-1983 year groups of the Association for such a kind gesture.
She said the car would enable her to easily get in touch with other persons, and extend help through her Foundation when necessary.
For her part, mother of the beneficiary, Rev Dr (Mrs) Joyce Orleans Madjitey, who is also a former Education Director in the Ashaiman Municipality, thanked the Association for its good deed.
“We are very grateful for this donation. This has really touched the family and the Foundation because I thought that God had done enough. He used you to demonstrate that He was not done yet, and to say thank you is an understatement, but it must be said anyway,” she stated.
She also urged other old student unions and corporate entities to emulate the gesture by Komenda College of Education Old Students Association by providing support to intensify efforts to empower the less privileged in the society.
