A former Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority, Akosua Asaa Manu, has called on new members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP at the University of Ghana, Legon, and Accra City campuses to prioritise transformational leadership over transactional politics as they navigate their academic and political journeys.
Speaking during the UG-TESCON Alumni Connect and Freshers’ Orientation, at the University of Ghana, Manu, affectionately known as Kozie, called on the freshers to uphold the principles of discipline, loyalty, and selfless service, which define the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She encouraged the freshers to approach politics with discipline, loyalty, and service, rather than personal ambition or short-term gains.
“You are the future of this party, but more importantly, you are its conscience. Never let your activism become transactional. Let it be transformational. Let your service be grounded in belief, not bitterness; in principle, not profit; in legacy, not lobbying,” she advised.
NPP’s foundation
She reminded the students that the NPP’s foundation was built on sacrifice and resilience through the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, which resisted military and authoritarian rule in Ghana’s political history.
She encouraged TESCON members to uphold these ideals by rejecting short-term political gains in favor of long-term national service.
Emphasising TESCON’s slogan, “Commitment Without Inducement,” Kozie urged the students to remain steadfast in their loyalty to the party without expecting personal rewards.
She cautioned against the dangers of engaging in politics solely for personal benefit, stressing that their role as young leaders was to shape the future with integrity.
“As we prepare for the challenges ahead, remember: you are not just TESCON members—you are standard-bearers of a noble tradition. Let history be your compass. Let integrity be your anchor. And let Ghana always be your reason,” she added.
UG-TESCON executives expressed appreciation to Manu for her mentorship, describing her address as a powerful reminder of the values TESCON members must uphold.
