The paramount chief of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area, in the Ahanta West municipality of Western Region, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, is pushing for the retention of Henrietta Mary Eyison as the Municipal Chief Executive of the area. The chief, during the Assembly’s first meeting for the year, last Tuesday, used the opportunity to campaign for Mrs Eyison.
Although the Omanhene had initially said he would spend just 15 minutes to address the House, he remained standing on his feet for over 40 minutes, touting Mrs Eyison’s feats which date back to her days as a tutor at Wesley Girls High School in the Central Region.
According to him, it takes very few tutors to secure themselves employment in that renowned institution. He urged the assembly members to applaud Mrs Eyison for snatching that opportunity.
He also made reference to the MCE’s immediate past job as an English Literature lecturer at the university. The chief reiterated that Mrs Eyison is, by all standards, a woman of substance who had brought honour and development to Ahanta and therefore deserves another term to continue lifting the image of the municipality high.
Asset
He described Mrs Eyison as an ‘asset’ to Ahanta West. He cautioned some opinion leaders agitating for her removal to consider the consequence of their action. He also advised NPP members interested in the MCE position and writing anonymous letters about Mrs Eyison to the presidency to stop and rather wait patiently for their turn at the end of her tenure.
Nana Kwesi Agyemang suggested that it would not be out of place if all the assembly members in Ahanta West emulated the example of their counterparts in other parts of the country by writing a common letter to the presidency to retain the MCE.
Meanwhile, a non governmental organization, Ambassador for Peace and Justice Foundation – Ghana, has honoured Mrs Eyison as the best performing MCE in the Western Region for the year 2019-2020. A certificate in recognition of her developmental drive, selflessness, transparency, commitment and outstanding leadership was presented to her during the meeting.
