Former President John Mahama is not only playing the bad loser and clowning his way to insignificance, but also appears acting infantile in lying too barefaced for his personality.
Last weekend, he was all over the airwaves terribly marking down the Electoral Commission’s conduct of the 2020 elections, claiming that the Commission could only have scored F, rather than the international acclaim Jean Mensa and her lieutenants had been receiving.
He had earlier attempted an Election Petition that appeared laughable in every aspect – from pleadings and witness statements to filing processes that didn’t show that the petitioner and his band knew what they were doing.
As we witnessed, the Supreme Court’s verdict was unanimous in throwing him out for going to court in illiterate and unprofessional fashion, setting a bad example in failing and scoring F in providing zero shred of evidence to back his spurious claims.
He had kept shifting from having won through arguments that the EC Chairperson was not qualified, to her being incompetent and fudging figures to give the ruling New Patriotic Party victory.
Eventually, when he got exposed by his own party cadres on the grounds, he shamelessly had to offer a trifling joke about poor NDC polling agents being largely illiterate, though he should have borne that tag, together with his overrated lead lawyer.
Equivocating to hell
Subsequently, he would make useless propaganda out of Techiman South elections into Ejura, ending up creating mayhem in the constituencies and blaming it on the ruling government and the police.
It was only when dissidents in the party and elements in his own Minority referred to his antics as “concert” that he began straightening up, though, like a Tom Sawyer or Pinocchio, he would subsequently go back into his hog skins.
So, he has since 2020 been either lying or equivocating or confusing the issues like a dazed boxer, throwing punches into the empty air, while his now jittery corner and NDC Council of Elders keep twitching in agony.
Mahama’s F record
It appears that when the NDC Council of Elders endorsed John Mahama, they never anticipated that he also, apart from being a leader in Ghana, had a duty to be diplomatic and statesmanlike. Little wonder, he acted funny on ECOWAS platforms and national media networks over corruption and other governance issues.
John Mahama’s F grading of the EC’s processes for the 2020 elections, when he himself had congratulated the EC for overcoming COVID-19 pandemic hurdles to roll out processes for elections and crown it with one of the most transparent processes ever in Ghana, exposes him as a double-faced character and leader ever to have found himself on the seat as President.
It is our firm opinion that if there was anybody that deserved an F in public life in Ghana, it certainly must be John Mahama.
He inherited a resilient economy and, like The Prodigal Son, blew it with irresponsible friends and cronies, scoring a virtual negative in agriculture and energy, manufacturing and health, and pushing Ghana to the precipice.
Missed opportunity
It is strange that a section of the NDC would still sing the praise of a man who cannot boast of any record as running mate, President and flag bearer of a leading opposition party in Ghana.
Rawlings must certainly be turning in his grave for plucking him from obscurity to prominence. He appears to have failed everybody, including himself and his party, for this infantile comment about the EC scoring ‘F.’
Like the unrepentant armed robber and insurrectionist who was crucified together with Jesus in Jerusalem in AD 33, John Mahama has consistently missed any opportunity to redeem himself.
