The Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Solomon Kusi Brako, has confirmed that 88.8% of shops at the newly constructed Akyem Oda Ultra-Modern Market Complex have been allocated to their original owners.
Announcing this to the media, Mr. Brako revealed that the market, inaugurated by former President Nana Akufo-Addo over a year ago, was now approaching its official opening to the public. He emphasised that the allocation process was conducted with transparency and fairness, with priority given to previous shop owners.
False claims?
The MCE addressed allegations made by Akyem Oda MP, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who claimed that stalls had been handed over to market women from Asamankese and Akwatia. Speaking on Asampa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Acquah suggested that the allocation process had been compromised. However, Mr. Brako firmly dismissed the claims as “blatant lies.”
“The allocation process has been conducted with integrity, and all stalls have been allocated according to the rightful owners’ entitlements,” he stated.
Transparent process
To ensure fairness, the Birim Central Municipality set up a dedicated committee to oversee the distribution of shops. While the process faced initial challenges, Mr. Brako confirmed, that 88.8% of the shops had now been successfully allocated to their rightful owners. Contrary to the MP’s assertions, none of the committee members resigned during the process.
Grand opening
With the market’s official opening imminent, traders and residents are eagerly anticipating the benefits the new complex will bring. The ultra-modern facilities are expected to improve trading experiences and provide a substantial boost to the local economy.
The market committee has been commended for its transparent and equitable management of the allocation process, which is expected to elevate the overall business environment in Birim Central Municipality.
